الاسمُ المتكنُ مبنيٌّ في أصل الوضع، إما على ثلاثة أحرف كحجرٍ، وإِما على أربعة كجعفرٍ، وإما على خمسة كسفَرجلٍ، وما زاد على خمسة، فهو مزيد فيه "كخَنْدريس". وما نقصَ عن ثلاثة، فهو محذوف منه "كابٍ ويَدٍ وفَمٍ". وأصلُها "أبَوٌ ويَدْيٌ وفَوْهٌ".
